#30 Protect your business development hours with your life

As an IP professional, your most important job is to provide excellent service to your clients and that should be your top priority. Delivering outstanding service is one of the best ways of landing additional business, either from the client in question or by the word-of-mouth.

However, that is only one part of business development. In order to establish a constant stream of leads and selling opportunities, you have to dedicate at least a couple hours a week for other business development activities.

My suggestion is to have your business development hours blocked in your calendar in a fixed slot every week. And you must guard these few hours with your life. You must form a routine that you will follow.

It takes around 30 days for a human to build a habit. The first month is the hardest but after that the behavior becomes automatic.

If your business development activities are not systematic and you conduct them randomly, it is not likely to work out. Just like deciding to start working out or losing weight without a plan is not likely to work out as slowly you start slipping back to the old habits.

But when you have a system in place and you hold yourself accountable for business development activities, you are one step closer to success.
